“Our goal is to tell an abstract story, where each detail is meaningful only as part of the whole, and the story unfolds simultaneously earlier and later, some of it taken from somewhere and some invented on the run. We paint or create sculptural forms, video images, sounds, texts, and interactive and performative confusions, set ourselves tasks and create obstacles. So the results are not paintings or sculptures. Even if the works look like that individually, they are more like materialised contour lines that mark the journeys of thought and emotion,” the artists explain.
Triinu Jürves, Kaarel Kütas and Villem Jahu have worked closely together for many years in various groups and combinations (–> Arrowgroup, pedagogical work, self-initiated galleries, music, performances etc.). Above all, they are united by an interest in mixing and combining different formats, interdisciplinarity and interactivity in art, grey areas and the entire scope of the art world, both vertically and horizontally.
Triinu Jürves (b. 1974) is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and exhibition designer with a background in painting. She works with collages, objects and installations that could be described as coded comments on the surrounding processes. She has exhibited both as part of the –>Arrowgroup (together with Villem Jahu) and individually. She is actively involved in the Metropol independent gallery. Triinu Jürves is an experienced art teacher and trainer who has mastered the arsenal of classical representation, but her bread and butter is her system of teaching contemporary art, which she considers her artistic practice, as both fields are connected in one logical whole.
Kaarel Kütas (b. 1981) is a multidisciplinary freelance artist and curator who addresses global issues and spiritual dilemmas in his works with poetic peasant wisdom. His main means of expression are performance art, performative installations and objects, as well as his work as one of the leaders of the Metropol gallery. Kaarel Kütas highly values collaboration with other artists and groups, actively creating broad-based artistic outlets for himself, his colleagues and the public. Kaarel also works in the field of national defence.
Villem Jahu (b. 1985) is a freelance visual and sound artist who focuses on abstract sound language and live performances, mainly on self-built electronic instruments. In visual arts, he is mainly active as part of the –>Arrowgroup (together with Triinu Jürves). Villem is one of the leaders of the Valgemetsa Projektiruum.
