On August 12th, the sixth joint exhibition of two artists Triin Kerge and Aksel Haagensen “I Should Be Able To, Angelo”, will open at Jakobi Gallery . The focus of the exhibition is on personal places and stories that have influenced the artists’ perception of the world. The exhibition intertwines these experiences with the natural and cultural, memory and imagination, bringing them side by side in the gallery space – through dialogue and shifts.
Triin Kerge presents a new series inspired by one of her current places of residences – Venice. Her practice intertwines the experiential nature of documentary photography with slow, meditative embroidery and explores the themes of home, memory and belonging.
Aksel Haagensen brings to the exhibition a flock of parrot sculptures – colourful, playful and sometimes absurd characters who curiously explore the space and the visitors. The work searches for a balance between childish fantasy and critical environmental awareness.
The title of the exhibition comes from Emil Tode’s novel “Border State”. It refers to the difficulty of sharing an experience that is personal and corporal, but at the same time broadly human. “I Should Be Able, Angelo” is an exhibition about belonging and displacement, attention and duration and about what remains when everything is in constant flux.
