The exhibition deals with change, memory and disappearance – how old worlds fall apart and new ones are born in their place. Kuusing’s everyday mythological and magical realism-infused worlds meet Oolberg’s works, the focus of which is change as a continuous and inevitable process. Together, they create a reflection on the constant transformation of the world and humans and invite the viewer to think about what remains when familiar forms disappear.
“Disappearing Cities” is an art experience that appeals to both the eye and the mind at the same time.
Toomas Kuusing (1976) graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a BA in liberal arts in 2005. Since 2001, he has been a member of the art group Non Grata and has participated in Non Grata performances and exhibitions in Europe, Asia, North and South America. Since 2002, he has participated in group exhibitions (graphics and oil paintings) in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Armenia, Georgia, France, England, China, the U.S.A., Chile, South Korea, Cuba and the United Arab Emirates. He has had solo exhibitions (oil paintings and graphics) since 2002 in Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Germany, France, England, the U.S.A., Chile, Australia and South Korea. Kuusing’s work can be found in the collections of museums and galleries such as the Art Museum of Estonia, Tartu Art Museum, Mark Rothko Art Center Daugavpils, Contemporary Graphic Art Museum Yerevan, Museo Internacional De La Grafica Santiago Chile, China Printmaking Museum Guanlan China, etc.
Taavi Oolberg (1983) is an artist, illustrator and caricaturist from Võru County. He graduated from the Department of Media and Advertising Art of the Tartu College of Art in 2014. Oolberg has illustrated and designed various books and games. In his art, he mostly uses paintings and sculptural objects, sometimes also other moving media. He currently works in the forests of South Estonia.
