The architect Alfred Weissenberg

Alfred Weissenberg (1898–1977) was active as an architect and artist and lived a large part of his life in Nyköping. He was extremely productive and designed buildings and interiors in and around Copenhagen and in Sörmland.

The exhibition about Alfred Weissenberg is the first to present his lifelong work as an architect and artist in its entirety. Through a donation to Sörmland’s museum, his entire drawing archive is in the museum’s collections.

The exhibition shows Alfred’s architectural and artistic ability. It shows an architect’s craftsmanship and material knowledge during the early to mid-20th century and how architecture was influenced by social development and prevailing trends.

The exhibition is also an encounter with Historien om Bodri , a book for children and adults written by Hédi Fried with illustrations by Stina Wirsén. It tells the story of Hédi and her sister Livia, who both survived the Holocaust. Now the story is shown as an exhibition side by side with the depiction of Alfred Weissenberg’s life and work. Before Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2023, an outdoor part of the History of Bodri will also open in the museum park.
