On Thursday, January 18 at 18:00, the solo exhibition of glass artist Kati Kerstna “TENDER, FRAGILE, TENDER” will be opened in the ArtDepoo gallery.
The project launched by the ArtDepoo gallery in 2021 – to offer the winner of the audience prize of the traditional spring exhibition in the Tallinn Art Hall the opportunity to have a personal exhibition in the ArtDepoo gallery – has found great support among visitors. Kati Kerstna’s glass work “Alter ego” was an audience favorite at the 2023 spring exhibition.
Kati Kerstna’s personal exhibition “TENDER, FRAGILE, TENDER” is a hint of the balance that should prevail between humanity and other inhabitants of the planet and reinforces the understanding that without these others, we could not really exist.
Although the displayed glass objects, which depict representatives from the animal or rather the insect kingdom, can also be treated as an allegory, bringing them to the level of people and the relationships between them. The characters taken under a magnifying glass and magnified into giants and at the same time made transparent are those who are not often noticed by history, but whose disappearance would ultimately put humanity more or less on its toes.
Kati Kerstna (b. 1970) is an artist whose work is characterized by an undisguised interest in nature and environmental problems. In the works completed in recent years, Kerstna deals with environmental pollution, and glass as a material is mostly recycled and sometimes comes from previous works. The introduced 3D modeling also enables the creation of wonderful optical objects that harmonize with the space, which have also attracted international attention.
The exhibition is accompanied by art classes for children and young people in cooperation with the Maru Karu children’s art studio.
