In her works , Teija Immonen uses the world of popular imagery, combining it with personal experiences,
references to art history, nature photography, still life art and photos from home albums. Combining
the sublime and kitsch in this way, he strives to reach a universal flow of images that
touch many with their familiar elements.
The exhibition features the series “Collector’s patterns” where Immonen has documented his own vintage collection.
The purpose is to bring out a person’s desire for collecting, which can also define an individual’s essence more broadly.
What kind of image does he want to create of himself and in what kind of groups of like-minded people does he share his hobby.
It’s also about stubbornness and creating a new need when one need is satisfied. To put it mildly
, people have a desire to achieve pleasure and enjoy beauty through different means
The printing methods of art graphics support the world of subjects because the history of graphics is strongly in the use image
and reproductions.
Recycling ideas is also interesting. The pattern of the fabric can be borrowed from history from the patterns used by different cultures
, which is modified to fit the fashion of a certain era. Immonen, on the other hand,
as an artist and collector, takes it forward again and transforms it into a work that has its own
meaning again.
Taina Kokkonen plays with ornamental forms in her abstract works. He thinks carefully
about what color surfaces and shapes are like, because their mutual harmony is the content of Kokkonen’s works. However,
a little surprise is always included in the composition.
The subjects for the works can be found in nature, its various forms and the cycle of nature. Kokkonen uses
repeated shapes as an effective way to create a sense of movement in his works. The creation process of the work may also
be influenced by a memory, image or, for example, current news.
The works are single pieces, even though they are made using graphics. Kokkonen prints different
shapes using letterpress graphics and woodcuts. He attaches the strips of paper partially on top of each other and
overlapping, creating a new whole from them. The jaggedness of the paper and the paper wrinkles visible on it should be
visible. They bring liveliness to the surface structure. The shapes in the background are partially visible
