Some of the works in the exhibition deal with wars in Chechnya, while others focus on the Chechens, who escaped the wars and persecution. Some of them ended up in Finland. How are they doing now?
In this show, Teemu Mäki exhibits works related to Chechnya. He has worked on the theme since 2008. At the moment the theme is also relevant, because — according to Mäki — Putinist Russia is now trying to do to Ukraine what it earlier did to Chechnya.
Teemu Mäki (b.1967, Doctor of Fine Arts) is a visual artist, writer, director (of theatre, film and opera) and researcher living in Kallio, Helsinki. The exhibition in Cultural Centre Caisa in April 2023 is his 60th solo exhibition.
In the show there will be new works, but also two older ones, already exhibited, which Mäki made with his Finnish and international students in 2011–2013.
