Marimekko was founded in 1951 in Finland by designer Armi Ratia. In 2021, the company celebrated 70 years. Marimekko’s abstractly patterned, comfortable dresses became a contrast to the tight and restrictive fashion of the time. The future US First Lady Jackie Kennedy is portrayed on the cover of the December issue of Sports Illustrated in 1960 wearing a Marimekko dress and the brand became an international sensation.
