Through a mix of materials, techniques and expressions, the exhibition offers a visual adventure in which the characteristics are more important than the similarities.
The City of Stockholm began acquiring art more than a hundred years ago. It is one of Sweden’s largest publicly owned art collections, a collection that is constantly growing. Today it consists of 32,568 works and includes paintings, prints, watercolours, drawings, photographs, sculptures and objects.
As a whole, the city’s art collection is exactly as it should be: diverse, idiosyncratic, dynamic and independent. Sometimes it reflects current art trends. Sometimes it represents just that which is somehow different. It is always characterised by its great art historical value as a witness to the times.
The common feature of the selection is that all the works were purchased in 2020-2021 and were created by artists currently working. However, they come from different generations, create in different techniques and seek different expressions. In each other’s company, their artworks represent more distinctive features than similarities. The presentation thus testifies to the ability of art to thrive together despite its differences and to retain its uniqueness in multi-cultural contexts.
Participating artists are Muhammad Ali, Anna Camner, Leif Engström, Ferdinand Evaldsson, Lars Kleen, Sara Möller, Elin Odentia, Stina Persson and Raha Rastifard.
