Galerii Metropol is excited to invite you to our new exhibition – a clever and beautiful site-specific installation of Finnish artist Annu Kapulainen. Once again, the shores of the Gulf of Finland will be connected by art, this time with colorful tape.
The exhibition creates a visual representation of RGB color system* using the exhibition spaces of the gallery, where a path of colored stripes leads the viewer on a train of thought, which connects spatially, figuratively and in several conceptual levels phenomena that are hard to perceive at first glance.
References to the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, the Netflix TV series Stranger Things, the rainbow flag and color symbolism are added to the orientation game.
Well, we have to admit that nothing is the same anymore – the meanings of symbols are not the same anymore, good and bad have changed places, fratricide and Russian Geopolitical Blackmail.
And even from painter’s point of view the impossible becomes true: the mixture of red, green and blue gives birth to the mixture all other colors, forming the rainbow spectrum.
So there is still a glimmer of hope in form of clear rainbow(colors).
Annu Kapulainen (b. 1975 in Helsinki) received a classical painting education at the Surikov State Academic Art Institute in Moscow (MFA 2003). As a contemporary artist, she sensitively adds a human and social perspective to this foundation and visualizes color- or form-based impulses into large-scale thematic series. She frequentely combines two-dimensional surfaces with objects and space into a in her creative work.

* The RGB color model is an additive color model in which the red, green and blue primary colors of light are added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors. The name of the model comes from the initials of the three additive primary colors, red, green, and blue. The main purpose of the RGB color model is for the sensing, representation, and display of images in electronic systems, such as televisions and computers (Wikipedia).
