While a large part of Raul Meelโs oeuvre is based on text-images and is extremely systematic, intellectual, and calculated down to the finest details both visually and conceptually, โLove Spellsโ has been born intuitively or, relying on the author, one could say revelationally. During the last year Meel has dealt extensively with archetypal forms and โLove Spellsโ is an abstract output of archetypal forms. Both the line and the colouring refer to one of humanityโs greatest energetic forces that occurs in nature, and that, in Meelโs treatment, is the Freudian life drive.
