At Viimsi Artium, Robin Nõgisto opens his new solo exhibition Rainbows Per Minute, where canvases erupt in a storm of colors, as surreal scenes, psychedelic humor, and everyday fantasies shift at the speed of rainbows.
Working between Hiiumaa and Tallinn, Nõgisto (b. 1992) is an artist whose practice drifts along the borders of pop culture, absurd worlds, and dreamscapes. His instantly recognizable aesthetic merges an intuitive visual language, dense detail, psychedelic motifs, and a touch of skewed humor. It is art that offers youthful lightness and existential depth at once, revealing familiar yet strangely reimagined figures in a new glow.
“As I see it, my works exist outside the aura of any specific era, yet they are inevitably influenced by all the visual experiences I have absorbed since childhood,” the artist has said.
Nõgisto’s paintings unfold like vivid dreams, each detail alive in its own right, where the mundane collides with the grotesque and pop culture fuses with personal mythology. His works embody both a critique of the screen age and a celebration of life’s intensity—what French art critic Thibault Bissirier has described as “a somnambulant world, full of reveries and nightmares, that never lets us off its hook.”
