Julia Valtanen and Nadiia Pliamko announce the opening of an immersive exhibition, offering a unique format for interacting with art at the intersection of Gestalt therapy and modern media. In a world where digital technologies devalue personal opinion, the exhibition encourages viewers to rely on the most solid foundation — their feelings.
This is more than just an exhibition; it is a practical tool for internal inventory. Central to the display are semi-figurative paintings and surreal metaphorical cards. The captions for the works are replaced by therapeutic questions that help transform the impression into grounding current internal tasks.
You are invited to select the numbers of your two cards — the emotional and the sensory. The
randomly selected number will guide you to your “personal card” for in-depth study. Interaction with the exhibits is organized into levels of complexity, ranging from cognitively-focused graphics to painting that delves into pure sensations with questions about the localization of feelings in the body.
The exhibition includes an animated film based on Nadiia Plamko’s reading of some of her cards from the deck presented at the show. In the video, the characters express emotions through collages and paintings of Julia Valtanen. The music by Stacy.O and a poem by Ukrainian poet Maria Stepanyuk provide a gentle accompaniment exclusively for your interpretation and experiences, for which you may not have had time in the daily race.
We remove our own ego from these works and give them to you as a space to place your problems and unacknowledged joys. And returning to yourself will give you the most accurate answers on how to live in a rapidly changing world.
Nadiia Pliamko (1990) is a Ukrainian artist who graduated from the Institute of Contemporary Art. Since 2007, she has worked as a designer and illustrator while simultaneously exhibiting works that explore themes of memory and the links between the internal and external world, aided by further education in animation and psychotherapy. After moving to Estonia, Pliamko mastered filmmaking and has been creating award-winning animated films about technology and the psyche since 2022. Her symbolic works are exhibited internationally.
Julia Valtanen (1988) is a Tallinn-based artist working in the genres of painting and collage. She holds a Master’s degree in Graphic Design and furthered her education by studying painting in the EKA Open Academy (2019–2020). In her art, Julia explores the subtle movement of matter and the interaction between the human and non-human. Her works create new visual spaces, offering the viewer a unique way of seeing and reflecting.
