Philip’s artwork is inspired by the ever-changing Scottish weather and mainly focuses on sea and landscapes. Mastered usage of acrylic paint to its’ fullest extent allows him to create effects ranging from those more akin to water colour to the heavy impasto application of the material. The combination of the two techniques on a single canvas magically depicts the textures and indeed captures the very essence of Scotland.
Philip Raskin studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1960s. Due to his father’s untimely passing, he did not complete his course and went directly into the world of commerce, not lifting a paint brush again for thirty-five years. Upon returning to his easel, he soon established a singular, instantly recognisable handwriting and a particular gift for capturing light; it is the latter, whether consciously or subconsciously, which resonates with the viewer.
Based in Strathaven, Scotland and has steadily accrued a loyal band of private collectors. He exhibits regularly in London, Hong Kong and Singapore. His original paintings and limited editions can be found in High Street galleries throughout the length and breadth of the United
Kingdom.
