LET THERE BE SNOWDRIFTS, LET THERE BE SLEET
EVEN FOOLS CAN SEE IT’S MARCH
IT’S TIME TO MAKE ART AGAIN
MIND AND BODY WILL GET CULTURED
The Performative Arts festival of March 9 has been held continuously since 1998. The initiator of the idea, artist Taave Tuutma: “Dear art lovers, the title of this year’s festival is BODY CULTURE. How is it that an industry like sports has risen to play an ever-increasing role in the cultural landscape? Music and film makers have been competing for a long time. Now it’s time for visual arts – participation in percentage art competitions is taking on the dimensions of a national sport. But whenever there is competition, there are downsides. The competence of the judges, the bias of the competition conditions and the shortcomings in the quality of the execution are new topics in art circles. What could be done better and what are the possible bottlenecks? You have to compete and adapt. WELCOME!”
FESTIVAL PROGRAM:
– Taave Tuutma’s curatorial exhibition “LOST ART” in the Metropol Cabinet and Metropol Staircase galleries The objects or designs created for percentage art competitions are often very specific, and those that do not turn out to be winners are lost to the larger audience although they give a good idea of current trends in art. The proposals of well-known and less-known artists, who for some reason did not win in public art competitions, will be shown.
– personal exhibition of artist Õie Holm “Sober trip” in Metropol gallery 6 m2. Those who have consumed psychotropic substances know how they affect our perception, thinking, behavior and emotions. You notice things, the surrounding environment comes to life, writhes and breathes. This experience stays with you when you get sober and makes you realize more how important it is to appreciate the little things.
– musical collective Makiga and Makita lead by artist and architect Indrek Mikk
– Puppet Theater “Käpardid” performance “Suvekon”. A simple misunderstanding can lead to great discoveries and change the world. Everything simple can turn out to be genius and vice versa. The impossible can become possible.
– experienced Finnish performance artists Maija Kivi and Meri Hietala
– Norwegian performing artists Tanja Silvestrini and Victoria Løvheim have done many playful performances together. At this festival, they present their new work, which consists of electronic music, live singing and fluffy costumes.
– Kuolio and Kaarina Patteri is an electronic and performative music duo from Helsinki, Finland. Their sounds and songs come from the murky waters of the subconsciousness.
– mysterious collective called Toores Õlu – you never know if it’s going to be best time of your life or if it’s going to end badly…
– Riitta Tuli Kylään is a four-member punk band from Finland. Their songs are born out of a young women’s need to vent their shit, madness and frustration. Riitta is dirty and messy, and there is no protective glass between the stage and the audience.
