Exhibition ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ at the HOP Gallery, 1 October–1 November.
On 1 October, the exhibition ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ will open at the HOP Gallery, in which Piret-Eve Kändler presents porcelain works completed in the summer of 2026. The exhibition will remain open until 1 November. Kändler’s aim is to invite viewers to look at ceramics in a different light – not through the lens of flawless form and technical perfection, but through individuality, expressiveness and the courage to experiment.
At the heart of the exhibition is the idea that beauty and value do not lie in traditional ideals of perfection. The works on display feature unexpectedly run glaze drips and experimental techniques – details that might normally be considered flaws. Kändler, however, offers an alternative interpretation: that every imperfection and distinctive feature makes a piece unique and gives it an emotional and visual value that mechanical flawlessness cannot achieve. The exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on their own notions of perfection and beauty.
‘Perfectly Imperfect’ is Kändler’s invitation to view porcelain through a new lens – not to judge, but to recognise the traces of the process that have been left on the material. Every detail that has broken or reacted unexpectedly speaks to experimentation as an integral part of the creative process itself, rather than a flaw.’
Piret-Eve Kändler holds a Master’s degree from the Department of Glass and Ceramic Design at the Estonian Academy of Arts and has also undertaken further studies in glass and ceramics at the University of Industrial Arts Helsinki (UIAH). Her works have been exhibited at numerous international exhibitions, including at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Pittenweem Arts Festival in Scotland, the Gwangju Museum of Art in South Korea, and the Argilla festival in Italy; In 2023, she received recognition at the international Blanc de Chine Ceramics Award in Hangzhou, China. She has previously exhibited her work at Gallery HOP in the exhibitions ‘Circus’ (2014) and ‘365’ (2019).
A public guided tour of the exhibition will take place on 15 October as part of the EKL galleries’ joint tour, starting at 17:00 at Hop Gallery.
