In the exhibition you will find works in materials such as ceramics, textiles, glass, wood and metal, everything from small objects to sculptures, wall works and larger installations. The contributions can be innovative both in idea and theme, in the approach to the materials and in the form and appearance of the work – or show trends and tendencies for inspiration.
Some of the works tell stories about the transformation they have been through, and several materials give the impression of being something other than what they are: Clay is reminiscent of leather and lace, and textiles flood like cascades of running water. The exhibition also shows how handicrafts help to comment on and influence the times we live in. Themes that stand out include the body and women’s health, identity and cultural encounters, climate and nature.
Handicrafts are often based on the exploration of materials and the historical roots of the craft. Today’s artisans have expanded the scope of the subject both in terms of choice of materials and techniques. Here the classic and well-known meet the new and unexpected.
This year’s artists have a wide spread in age, experience and where they come from. 14 of them have not participated in the Annual Exhibition before.
