The heart of the Merike Estna, Jaime Lobato and Hasanlu Lovers exhibition is the border and the spirit in its ambiguity. On the one hand, the border as a separator, delimiter, definition of worlds – something that divides into pieces, but also protects. On the other hand, alcohol as a synthesis of endless possibilities, where transitions are fusion-smooth. Alcohol is also a substance that cleanses, but also causes intoxicating shifts in perception.
The exhibition is built on dualities both in its subject matter and materiality. Tenderness and violence, wakefulness and sleep, isolation and coexistence, accelerated productivity and slowed mineralization find a place in the orchestration of different media. It is a biopoetic camino that began with isolation and separateness and went into coexistence.
Ceramic objects with sharp needles pointing outwards but fragile; a tight but perforated brick wall; a bed with Hasanlu Lovers lying on the deck, under which a Mexican tradition is heard – these are just a few examples of the branching exhibition at Temnikova and Kasela galleries.
