Marianne Moe - Blue Flicker

The exhibition Blue Flicker features wall reliefs made of wool felt. The felt has been painted and then cut into small strips that are then recombined to create monumental wall reliefs which seem to spill out from the wall. Moe has many years of experience in the field of textiles, and her works reveal a simple yet refined craftsmanship. They do not adhere to any clearly defined category of art but exist instead at the intersection between sculpture, painting and textile art.

The works are inspired by nature and landscapes. Nature’s forms are abstracted and reshaped into a play of colours, folds and shadows. When mounted together, the wool felt forms three-dimensional compositions that can bring to mind topographical maps or landscape formations such as fjords, mountains, lakes and cliffs.

Marianne Moe (b. 1975) grew up on the island of Herøy, off the Helgeland Coast. She now lives and works in Bergen. Since completing her studies in textile art at Bergen National Academy of the Arts (2003), she has participated in numerous juried annual exhibitions, for instance the national Autumn Exhibition in Oslo (2020, 2017, 1999) and the North Norwegian Art Exhibition, where she won the Critics’ Prize in 2018. Some of her solo exhibitions have been at Østfold Art Centre in Fredrikstad (2021), KRAFT Gallery in Bergen (2018) and RAM Gallery in Oslo (2005). Her works have been purchased for several prestigious public and private collections, among others, The City of Oslo Art Collection and KODE Art Museums and Composer Homes in Bergen. Moe has been on boards and committees for organisations such as B-open and the Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts (Norske Kunsthåndverkere, NK). In 2022 she will be the leader of NK’s national jury and will participate in jurying the Annual Craft Exhibition, which will open at Drammens Museum in September.
