Ludmilla Siim and Marko Kasur’s exhibition “Antares Parallels” is a creative dialogue between two artists, rooted in the long-standing friendship, enriched by a shared desire to learn from one another and to exchange knowledge.
Composed of multiple truths, the exhibition challenges the geometric definition of parallel lines: these trajectories, separated by more than a generation and moving along different paths, draw closer, touch, and at times even intersect.
The exhibition unfolds through four parallel thematic strands: a selection of Ludmilla Siim’s paintings from the early 1990s to the present day; digital artworks created in collaboration; Marko Kasur’s exploration of the interplay between light and darkness; and his silver jewellery collection “LEO”, which reflects motifs from the works of Leonhard Lapin.
Ludmilla Siim (b 1938) is an Estonian-Finnish painter. She was born in Alma-Ata, in the foothills of the Tian Shan Mountains in the southeastern part of present-day Kazakhstan. In the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, Ludmilla Siim emerged as a powerful figure in the Estonian art scene, with a body of work that explores the boundaries between Pop Art, hyperrealism, and surrealism. Her paintings address urban environments, the human figure, and space, while within constructed artificial settings, figure and background alternate between forming psychological portraits and spatial enigmas.
Throughout her long and distinguished career, Ludmilla Siim has received numerous prestigious awards and honours. Her works have been exhibited extensively in Estonia, Finland, and elsewhere, and are represented in the collections of Estonian art museums and private collectors.
Marko Kasur (b 1975) is jewellery artist who began working with metal art in the 1980s, as an apprentice to his goldsmith father. The early understanding of metal as a material, with its unique qualities and possibilities, has over time developed into a highly refined mastery of silver craftsmanship. As one of the directions of his artistic practice, Kasur seeks to discover new narratives and stories within existing forms, both in digital image manipulation and in the creation of precious metal jewellery. His work often reflects, creates parallels, and reveals hidden connections. Another recurring thread in his practice is his interest in architecture.
