During Performative Arts Festival of March 9 titled “Body Culture” an exhibition which brings to light some undercurrents of the theme of percentage art was opened in the Metropol gallery.
How is it that an industry like sports has risen to play an ever-increasing role in the cultural landscape? Music and film makers have been competing for a long time. Now it’s time for visual arts – participation in percentage art competitions is taking on the dimensions of a national sport. But whenever there is competition, there are downsides. The competence of the judges, the bias of the competition conditions and the shortcomings in the quality of the execution are new topics in art circles. What could be done better and what are the possible bottlenecks? You have to compete and adapt.
You can see a selection of projects that did not win in various competitions, their models as well as tablets with visuals, drawings and explanations. For legal reasons, all projects are displayed anonymously and this ensures the viewer a similar situation to the competition jury.
The trends, recurring approaches and questionable issues associated with the theme of percentage art are drawn out clearly enough at the exhibition.
