The Kursi Artists`Group is an association established in Tartu 1988 by Peeter Allik, Albert Gulk, Ilmar Kruusamäe and Priit Pangsepp. Over the years, Marko Mäetamm, Reiu Tüür, Imat Suumann, Külli Suitso and Priit Pajos have joined the group. In the spring of 2023, the Kursi Artists' Group will celebrate its 35th birthday as the oldest active artist group in Estonia.
The artists` group is not a mathematical whole or collection, there can always be surprises and unpredictability.
The artists of the association do not cultivate any specific style but try to differ from the artists from Tallinn and the artists from Tartu who focus on classical art. artists of Kursi have cultivated hyperrealism, surrealism, conceptualism.
The Kursi Artists`Group have presented their joint exhibitions in many countries, for example in Italy (Venice, 2007), South Korea (Seoul, 1996), the United States (New York, 2010) and nearby countries including Finland, Norway, Latvia and Lithuania. The creations of the association’s artists can be found in many museums and private collections both in Estonia and elsewhere in the world.
In 2005, the documentary “The Kursi Artists`Group” was completed.
