The importance of urban nature increases as our living environment becomes more and more densely built up. However, there is less and less room for nature as a result of activities carried out in the name of development, such as dense city planning and constant new building projects. If the current land use plans are implemented in the capital region, the area of local nature will decrease even further.

The multidisciplinary Farewell to the Landscape exhibition examines the definitions of progress, vandalism and what is allowed in relation to urban development. The exhibition and the works have been created using views and materials from new construction, demolition and blasting sites. For example, the pieces included in the Timber Harvesting series were made from wooden stakes used at construction sites. The works included in the exhibition were created between 2020 and 2023.
Karl Ketamo (b. 1987, Salo) is an artist who works in a multidisciplinary manner, for example with photography, sculptures and installations. Ketamo has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague (2016) and a Master of Arts degree in photography from the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (2020). A key element in Ketamo’s artistic work is the concept of landscape which he examines, for example, within the frameworks of urban development and national ideology.
