Kadi Estland: “I aimed to depict the concealed violence and misogyny that permeate our culture, something we endure as if it were a chronic illness. It’s like a predator, always lurking, occasionally surfacing to strike. Much of classical art addresses issues created by men. I believe it’s a widely shared experience that middle-aged and older women face their absence in cultural representation. Menopausal Lido was born out of a subtle sense of anger and frustration.”
Liina Pääsuke designed the window panel for Menopausal Lido. Accompanying the exhibition is a book titled Black and White Winters.
Kadi Estland (b. 1973, Pärnu) is an artist whose practice incorporates textiles, installation, drawing, and text. She has also collaborated on comics and memes for feminist magazines Feministeerium and Kolkaplika. Based in London and Tallinn, Estland graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1997 and has participated in numerous exhibitions in Estonia and internationally.
