Light and shadow are Sinisalo’s way of perceiving the world. He thinks light creates an aesthetic footprint. The recycled material used in the works gives its own layer to his works.
Curator Mia Kivinen has described the works of Jyrki Sinisalo: “with their numerous details and discovered materials, [they] are reminiscent of the surreal poetic box installations of Joseph Cornell and Juhani Harri from the second half of the last century.”
It is important for Sinisalo that his works have a dialogue with the experiencers. For him, the task of art is to make something visible, move and evoke thoughts.
Jyrki Sinisalo graduated from the Theater Academy as a lighting designer (MA). He pursued a career of almost forty years as a lighting designer and developer of training in the field. For the past few years, he has focused on making light art.
