Jari Järnström: A moment – paintings
I start painting the works with acrylic and spray paint using the action painting technique, which creates free abstraction and where the momentary comes to the fore. I use the wet-on-wet technique. On top of this, I continue with oil colors more slowly and carefully. Abstract and figurative meet in the same picture. The themes and subjects of my works are man and humanity, as well as various references to space and popular culture. As reference material, I use footage I found on the internet, which I fade so that the origin of the image can no longer be recognized.
My solo exhibition “Hetki” in Helsinki at Galleria A2 consists of paintings that have been created in the last year. I have now strived for an airy and fresh color impression after many years of using the brown color. The color black brings contrast to the composition alongside the pastel shades. The human figures in my paintings are closed in their own thoughts and surrounded by a mist of color.
