PRESS RELEASE
30.08.2023
Victoria Olt Gallery expands with its new exhibition about love to Solaris Gallery
On Thursday, August 31 at 6 p.m., Victoria Olt Gallery will open the new exhibition “I’ve Seen Love and it Looks Nothing Like This” in Solaris Gallery. This time the exhibition consists of Victoria Olt’s paintings and poet David Xam’s poems.
The exhibition opens to viewers the multi-layered world of the artist, where complex emotions of love and the search for one’s own path are mixed from the time when Victoria Olt lived in Spain. The artworks are in symbiosis with David Xam’s poems, which have similarly grown out of the poet’s quest to heal his heart through writing.
Victoria Olt is a traditional artist whose ethereal paintings mix classical realism with the vibrant colours of contemporary art. She was born and spent her childhood in Estonia, then moved to Spain, where she studied fine arts at the University of Seville. The artist has also worked in Madrid and Amsterdam, returning to Estonia at the end of 2021 and opening the Victoria Olt Gallery on Viru Street in February 2022. Victoria Olt’s works can be called modern magical realism.
Poet David is an abstract artist and writer based in Kashmir, India. His own personal experiences with love and loss inspired him to write poetry. He believes that writing itself is a healing process, a way to heal heart wounds and a catharsis in verbal expression.
Victoria Olt adds: “I’ve never been very good with words, so I started painting mainly to express what was in my head to the outside world. But of course, it didn’t take long to realise that I’m not the only one who feels not being really seen. In this world, which is meant to create a connection, we still end up being so isolated. That’s why I have set myself the goal of looking at the world more deeply and seeing people more complexly.”
Victoria Olt’s exhibition “I’ve Seen Love and it Looks Nothing Like This” opens on Thursday, August 31 at 6 p.m. in Solaris Gallery. It is a temporary expansion of Victoria Olt Gallery into Solaris Gallery, which will last until the end of October. Admission to the exhibition is free.
