Waldemarsudde will present a comprehensive and research-based exhibition showing the breadth and remarkable diversity in the rich oeuvre of Swedish painter Isaac Grünewald (1889–1946). The material includes painting, study sketches for stage designs for opera and ballet, theatre costume drawings, studies for decorative schemes for public spaces, applied art, design, illustrations and film.

The exhibition will consider Grünewald’s strong standing in Swedish cultural life against the background of societal changes of the early and mid-twentieth century, and in relation to his social contacts and networks in Sweden and internationally.
An extensive and richly illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition, with essays written by a range of eminent researchers in the fields of art and theatre.
