A beautiful Christmas tree is glowing at the house museum. There is a scent of cinnamon, cloves and saffron in the air. We have set Christmas tables with the finest china and linen damask tablecloths. The overall decoration style follows that seen at Christmas in the olden days, in the homes of the gentry. This year, Christmas at the house museum is an especially unique experience.
More than one hundred years ago, the Sinebrychoffs celebrated Christmas in a setting very similar to the one we see today. There are none of the Sinebrychoff family’s household objects in the house museum collection, so the Christmas table settings feature objects on loan from the family and the Sinebrychoff Art Museum’s other collections. In addition to the nostalgic Christmas mood, period furniture, and rare objects, the house museum provides visitors with a chance to admire the extensive collection of old European art, put together by Fanny and Paul Sinebrychoff.
The late-19th-century-style table settings were realised in cooperation with the Friends of the Sinebrychoff Art Museum. Kari-Paavo Kokki, a board member of the Friends of the Sinebrychoff Art Museum, provided expert assistance.
Visitors will be able to admire Christmas table settings in the style of Paul and Fanny, from 27 November 2021 to 16 January 2022.
As a reminder, admission to the house museum is free.
