The year 2022 marks the 200th anniversary of the first permanent photograph, thus, a number of Fotofest2022 exhibitions are dedicated to exploring the roots of photographic art and rediscovering historical techniques.
In 1822, Niépce took the world’s first photograph on paper, a heliogravure. The innovative technique was known as drawing with the sun at the time. Inspired by historical techniques, the international exhibition at the Town Hall features photographers whose work includes experimental pieces in which the photography process has occurred without the use of conventional cameras. The new exhibition reinvents some of the first photographic techniques (cyanotype, pinhole), as well as experimental and unfinished photographic processes in which the surrounding environment and factors independent of the artist play a role in the creation of the image.
