In these series, Brunner conveys the sea’s constant movement, with constant changes in both surface, colors, and light. Horisont give us a new visual narrative, where the perspective is directed towards the horizon line, the concrete and at the same time non-existent place, where sea and sky meet.
Frank Brunner’s motifs are characterized by quiet moments, depicted in cold or warm tones, often with a strong melancholic or nostalgic mood in the images. Horisont conveys several visual narratives where the motifs are mainly taken from the artist’s well-known maritime environment in Southern Norway. Brunner’s new graphic works convey short and fleeting moments or glimpses of the sea. In the pictures, both figurative and abstract expression meet, where Brunner seeks to convey memories, moments and experiences, regardless of time and place.
Frank Brunner (b.1971) is educated at the Statens Kunstakademie in Oslo, the Ilja Repin State Academy in St.Petersburg and Yale University in New Haven, USA. Brunner works as a painter and graphic artist. As a graphic artist, he works with both lithography and etching. The motifs so far in his career have revolved around people and animals, in either urban or more rural settings. The previous exhibition in the Kunstverket Galleri conveyed an extensive graphic production with the city of Oslo as the main motif. The images conveyed modern architecture, bridges and street motifs from newer districts and places in Oslo, work carried out at the graphic workshop Atelje Larsen in Helsingborg. Now Brunner has again worked at the renowned graphic workshop, but this time with a strong focus on maritime motifs.
