Grisli Soppe-Kahar and Danel Kahar’s joint exhibition “FOREIGN LAND” in the PÕHJALA Factory
Grisli Soppe-Kahar and Danel Kahar are a couple of artists who received their art education at the Estonian Academy of Arts. They are bound by a love of painting and a similar perspective on life. Similar features can be seen in the painting of both authors – a powerful and eloquent language of painting, dreamy and primitive – directs the observer back to the roots. Looking within oneself and even deeper. The exhibition could be viewed without any art historical background, without pre-tuning – not trying to label it or place it anywhere. It is best to simply stand in front of the work, feeling what you have created and letting it through and later researching it if necessary. This is the opinion of both authors, and the organizer and curator of the exhibition Meelis Tammemägi.
“In order to feel and perceive a painting, it is not always necessary to give any key in the form of text, a painting is free and any given reference or label can restrict the observer, push it into certain boxes,” says Danel Kahar.
