Artist Asteria’s painting exhibition “Colors of Spain” presents a mixed-media series on Spanish themes, infused with a touch of contemporary impressionism. The paintings feature large, open spaces, plenty of bright neons, and caricature-like techniques. The artist drew inspiration for this exhibition during an art residency in Granada, Spain, in 2022. Her “Colors of Spain” paintings convey a sense of uncharacteristic freedom and bold expression, occasionally featuring patterns reminiscent of Spanish Muslim art. This exhibition showcases glimpses of both the everyday life of Spaniards and the cultural festivals, such as the popular Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Las Fallas (the Fire Festival).
The artist humorously comments, “Working in a subtropical climate was an exhilarating experience in itself. My mind recorded all the wonders I encountered there, and the inspiration from that experience will last for years. For this exhibition, I didn’t have to force the designs from the brush; the paintings came so naturally and quickly. The energy was just right, and that’s where all bursts of fruitful inspiration begin. The environment was ideal for artistic creation.” Asteria is grateful that life brought her there and that she can now share all this beauty with the audience.
