“It simply came to our notice then. In 2004, the Panevėžys Museum of Local Lore prepared a publication entitled Vincas Firinauskas and His Photography. As the artist of this publication, the project manager Zita Pikelytė entrusted me with composing the illustrations. While re-collecting a large number of images, I felt the desire to direct the scenes in my own way, in which the people in V. Firinauskas’ photos would take part. Impressed by the magical pull of old photographs. There was something recognizable and close in the images. People looking at the photos connected with the characters of personal memories and aroused the imagination, ”says the author of the exhibition E. Ivanauskas.
And art critic Virginijus Kinčinaitis adds: “It is no coincidence that this cycle is called” Conversations with Vincas Firinauskas “. There are incredible treasures of time-suppressed meanings in the museum repositories. By talking to them, one can find endless important answers about oneself, one’s states and life, about the meaning of a moment of death and joy. All this is frozen in old photographs. After talking about them, a deepening conversation can take a long, lifetime. This is the perspective of the archive revealed in the visual dialogue between Evaldas Ivanauskas and Vincas Firinauskas. We are grateful to them for that. ”
