Ingmar Roomets and Eva Elise Oll are two young artists often associated with German expressionists and art brut. In joint exhibitions, the curators frequently choose to but their paintings next to each other and it always works organically as if they are complementing each other in a dialogue. This led the artists to an actual joint exhibition, hoping that perhaps in this way they become more aware of the essential grimaces of one’s own shadow.
The artists add: “We are observers and experimenters. Our aim is to reach the construction of the symbolic meaning of our own shadow. Paintings ripen in our psyche through experience, introspection and learning. The outcome will find its way onto the canvas through a playful process. The uncertain balance between change and awareness is very important – only through this the paintings can reflect the content of the psyche.”
Eva Elise Oll (b 1988) studied painting at Tartu Art College and art history at the University of Tartu. To date, she has held ten solo exhibitions and this is her second in the Tartu Art House.
Ingmar Roomets (b 1995) is studying at the Painting Department of the Pallas University of Applied Sciences. He actively participates in exhibition and has joined the Umbra Studio in Tartu Old Town.
