In the exhibition, Josephson’s many-facetted artistry is presented from an overall perspective. This will be the first extensive presentation of the works by the artist for over twenty years and will feature his painting, drawings, poetry and music.
Ernst Josephson (1851–1906) was, at his time, one of Sweden’s most innovative artists, who at an early stage rebelled against the academic tradition and came to unite a realistic mode of expression with elements of Romanticism and Symbolism, as well as with features from fairy tales and an expressionist idiom. After a mental breakdown, and becoming ill with schizophrenia in 1888, Josephson´s artistic output consisted mainly of drawings.
In the exhibition, Josephson’s many-facetted artistry is presented from an overall perspective. This will be the first extensive presentation of the works by the artist for over twenty years and will feature his painting, drawings, poetry and music.
