The exhibition examines drawing as a form of expression and gives an insight into how differently artists utilize the medium – both in the traditional sense with a focus on craftsmanship, and beyond to the untraditional. The exhibition includes drawings that assume three-dimensional form, as well as drawings without rules or boundaries. We meet the drawing as it travels from the wall out into the room, on its way to other techniques and between media. From figuration to abstraction, out into the world, into the forest, across cultures, both backwards and forwards in time, between opinions, and into political statements.
The exhibition also shows how a curator can think about an exhibition – as a whole it can convey the idea that everything can be a form of drawing.
Throughout the 2000s, drawing has strengthened its position. Internationally, several of the major biennales have shown drawing as an independent form of expression. Today, drawing is on an equal footing with other media, both in its pure form and in an expanded field, and claims its natural place across the entire art scene. Tegnerforbundet’s Drawing Triennale in 2023, entitled All that Lies Between, examined the relationship between the written and the drawn, the said and the unsaid, and everything that lies between. The idea of everything that lies between can also be descriptive of Tegning på tur, which is a tribute to drawing, but also a tribute to the freedom drawing has attained over the past 40 years.
