Tamane is a Latvian-born artist who received her education in Estonia and continues to live and work here. Her works are often based on very personal themes and tell the stories of her family, but their content is emphatically understandable and recognisable to everybody thanks to our shared history. Due to Tamane’s professional interests, the people in her works are mostly explored through the medium of photography, frequently using material created by the protagonists themselves. The exhibition “Typology of Touch” on the three floors of the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia forms a peaceful contemplation that highlights the inner strength of three women who have played an important role in Tamane’s life.
Diana Tamane (b 1986, Riga, Latvia) lives and works between Tartu, Estonia and Riga. She has graduated from the Tartu Art College (BA), the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels (MA) and HISK post-academic residency program in Ghent. Her primary medium of expression is photography, but she also uses video, sound, text and found objects in her work. Besides Estonia, she has had solo exhibitions in Belgium, China, France, Germany and Latvia. In 2020, APE published Tamane’s first book “Flower Smuggler”, which received the Recontres d’Arles Book Award and was shortlisted for the Paris-Photo Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Award.
