Danel Ülper “Friends’ song”

The more anxious and adverse the surroundings become, the more friendship seems like a secret society including only the chosen ones. Inevitably, time storms affect this, whether involving only two or more members, therefore meaningful gatherings form the backbone of maintaining bonds, giving the courage and strength to remain individuals.

“Friends’ song” is a reference to Jaan Tätte’s many songs of the same title, which record the experience of friendship throughout a person’s life, and it’s a metaphor for meaningful moments spent together, which can also be literally spent singing.

“Like Jaan Tätte’s songs, this exhibition does not seek novelty as much as the pursuit of something important, beautiful and timeless,” the artist explains.

Danel Ülper (b. 1998) graduated from the Pallas University of Applied Sciences and has exhibited mainly paintings. His works draw inspiration from paintings of the Belle Epoque era, simple moments and captivating, seemingly timeless places. He currently lives and works in Valga, where he continues to capture the arcane essence of the borderland. This year he became a member of Tartu Artists’ Union.
