The response was great – in total, the museum received 261 contributions from 112 craftsmen.
Now the jury’s solid work began. The jury has consisted of Hasti Radpour, Anna Åhlin Orwin and Ramon Persson – all active outside the county and with different approaches to crafts. The contributions have been completely anonymized during the jury’s work. First, they made a selection based on digital images of all the contributions and washed out 60 that were taken to the museum for the final selection. In mid-February, the jury gathered at the museum in Nyköping and selected the approximately 40 that will be exhibited.
The end result is a diverse and inspiring collection of objects that will be displayed in the museum’s largest exhibition space – from traditional utility objects to the free, conceptual and artistic. Craftsmen’s driving force is often desire and creativity, but in a troubled time with many and fast impressions, the craft can also be a breathing hole and a necessary contrast.
Some of the works are for sale through the museum shop.
One of the participants in the Craft Salon, Ami Stylander, has been awarded a remunerated assignment for the museum shop. She will be able to produce a new unique product with inspiration from Sörmland’s museum’s collections.
