This exhibition series is also a collaboration and a collective artistic response to its time. Being an artist in a studio association means, in addition to your own artistry, that you are also part of a context. It is a place, a second home, where artists support artists. A safe context that generates joint projects, conversations and exhibition activities.
Looking back, a decision was made in the spring of 2001 to introduce municipal studio support for professional artists in Örebro. In the role of artist, you are both a creator and your own producer. The support has therefore come to be a recognition of the value of art and an investment in what does not yet exist – art.
Because without art there is nothing to show. The art galleries remain empty.
Art is also a cornerstone of our democratic society, together we all have the right to experience, explore and be touched by art and culture. At a time when the world can feel uncertain and our shared values are being tested, it is more important than ever that we embrace the role of art in the public space.
Örebro Konsthall protects free art in all its expressions, the fragmentary and sprawling, the thematically driven and the aesthetically exploratory. The national cultural policy goals are clear – culture should be a dynamic, challenging and unbound force with freedom of expression as its foundation.
