The collections are based on a few central elements.
Both the Town of Loimaa and the Municipality of Loimaa, united from the beginning of 2005, have collected art in the course of decades. Works have been received as donations and purchased occasionally, but especially in recent years the aim has been one of systematic redemption. The whole collection now comprises of about 400 works of art, mostly by artists from the Loimaa Region.
Another central part of the Loimaa Museum of Art is the testament donation of Meeri and Eino Haapanen, which includes about 150 works of art, from Finland and abroad.
The third, and extremely significant entity is the Alpo Jaakola collection, most conspicuously the Statuary Park created and constructed by the artist himself in the village of Karhula. There are over forty sculptures in the Park, plus hundreds of paintings and smaller objects belonging in the buildings therein. Footprints and handmarks of the artist can be found in the surrounding nature also, sometimes in surprising locations. Alongside the Statuary Park, the art collections of Loimaa Town include several dozens of paintings and other works by Jaakola.
The fourth entity forming the basis of the Loimaa Museum of Art is the collection of negatives of Photographer Elias Hollo. In the 500 or so negatives, life of Loimaa and also of Karelia is depicted, from the early 1900’s until the 1960’s. Loimaa Town also owns works by other photographers, as property or as deposit.
In the summer of 2013 the Art House was granted the care of about 40 works of art belonging to the Association of Finnish Artists.
Furthermore, other smaller collections reside in the Art House.
