Finnish Fanny Churberg’s dramatically rendered and expressive landscapes in strong colors meet Carl Fredrik Hill’s deeply personal, shimmering and pre-expressionist paintings in the exhibition. During an intense and creative period, they were in France to portray the lush nature of the Fontainebleau Forest. With inspiration from some of the leading figures of the Barbizon School, Corot, Rousseau, and Courbet, they developed an entirely new type of landscape painting.
At Sven-Harry Konstmuseum, the related, but strongly personal artistry is brought together for the first time before they both end their painting in different ways. Fanny Churberg, in the shadow of her male artist colleagues, ends her career abruptly and Carl Fredrik Hill who unfortunately enters a period of severe illness.
Sven-Harry Konstmuseum was honored to be part of the Finnish state visit on April 23, 2024. We welcomed Mrs. Innes-Stubb and H.M. The Queen and ministers Anna-Maja Henriksson and Parisa Liljestrand. Read more about the visit here.
