“We are organizing such an exhibition for art lovers who are interested in creating their own personal collection. A novice collector can choose his or her first work of art from the exhibition and learn how much owning art and exhibiting it in a personal interior adds to life,” explains gallerist Victoria Olt, who is also an artist herself and will present an outstanding 6-meter marbling series, the title of which “7.753” refers to to the world’s population, i.e. 7.7 billion people.
„One of the characteristics of water marbling as a technique is that the artist has only a bit of control of how the artwork is gonna end up looking and therefore it could never be replicated, so each piece is unique and irreplicable, just like people are. Visitors can identify with one of them more than others and pick the one which is „theirs’”. By doing that they symbolically set a cornerstone for their collection so it is easier to build the following layers of further artworks,“ adds Olt, an Estonian artist who has returned to homeland after studying and working in Spain.
Other interesting techniques represented at the exhibition are magnetotype, sumi-e, mezzotinto, anamorphosis and alcohol ink, as well as more classic acrylic and oil painting, watercolor and drawing. Local names worth highlighting include Liisa-Aleksandra Volmer, who received the Young Artist Award of the Estonian Academy of Arts last year, and Marita Liivak, who will perform with her personal exhibition at the gallery next spring, too.
From abroad the gallery is welcoming Ukrainian Ksenia Sulaeva, who has studied at the Luhansk and Lviv National Art Universities, but moved to Estonia a few years ago. The Italian Elena Rossato and the London-based Polish Tomasz Mro are both extremely popular digital artists of the younger generation, Mro’s printed versions can only be obtained exclusively from the Victoria Olt Gallery outside of the UK.
