Water is the material of dreams. It is in this way that one of my favorite French philosophers, Gaston Bachelard, treated water as a material. A gushing spring stream, a clear blue spring, the deep turquoise of the Mediterranean or the gloomy pewter gray of the Baltic Sea are the different characteristics of water.
Water is a material with character, and water also extinguishes fire. Water is the opposite of fire and water is sacred. The earth needs water to flourish, and water is the water of life for the earth like mother’s milk for a child. Hot water is burning water and is loved by men more than women. The water of life, Aqua vitae, has many meanings, but what is certain is that life is born in water. Water is the mother of life. The exhibition “Aqua vitae” is an exhibition about the water element, a fluid that makes you dream.
