The sisters Annette Kierulf (b.1964) and Caroline Kierulf (b.1968) like to collaborate on exhibitions, but make pictures separately. Both work with woodcuts. With their many years of experimentation with the technique, they have been at the forefront of the revitalization of this medium. In particular, they have explored the color woodcut and the puzzle technique, which was first developed by Edvard Munch.
A selection of works from the extensive exhibition they recently had at the Bergen Art Museum under the title “To create a world” is on display.
In her photos, Caroline has taken the home and gender roles associated with it as a starting point, with inspiration and quotes from older editions of Alle kvinners blad.
Annette has worked with landscapes where traces of human activity are often visible, based on observations from Radøy, where she settled to get closer to nature.
