Jukka Silokunnas has systematically broken objects for 20 years. Since 2021, Anna Ruth has begun reassembling Jukka’s destroyed objects with glue. This exhibition presents the attempts of two seemingly different artists to find a connection. The conflicting ideology between breaking and repairing metamorphoses between them into a question of humanity. Jukka cannot destroy the whole world nor can Anna fix it, but they find solace on the edge of infinity. Work and effort are inextricable parts of humanity.
Everything sucks.
Futility.
Empathetic futility.
Repairing without ever becoming whole.
Recovering without eliminating the sore.
This crappy illusion of change reveals more about us, than the change itself.
Tomorrow is always the day after today.
Tomorrow is always the day after today.
Together in the face of honesty.
Jukka Silokunnas is a media artist and art coordinator, unrestricted by materials, who has loved two things since childhood: breaking things and making a mess. As a child, these habits often got him into trouble – nowadays, not so much. He despises materiality and seeks a state in which even the last bonds between atoms have been broken. However, natural entropy is too slow a process for the impatient Silokunnas, so he has decided to become a force of nature himself.
Anna Ruth is a visual artist, art organiser and curator. She is distressed by our inability to understand one another as humans and our desire for both physical and psychological boundaries. Ruth draws with anything that can make, or be made into a line, and uses strict rules as part of her creative process.
