The score itself, the sheet music, is drawn in pencil. Graphic notation is when composers use visual symbols other than traditional musical notes. Rosén’s symbols represent things she has explored in her artistic work and the different directions her work has taken over the years. The piece of music can be performed with one or more instruments.
Ann Rosén was born in 1956 in Hörnefors outside Umeå. Today she lives and works in Östra Hoby in southeastern Skåne. There, together with Sten-Olof Hellström, she runs Schhh…, a platform for experimental music and sound art. Rosén is educated at Konstfack in Stockholm and has been exploring interpersonal communication since the 1980s. Since the 1990s, she has primarily worked with music and sound art. Her works have been performed on stages such as the Royal Swedish Opera and Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the Southbank Centre in London.
“Recycling the Work Process” was acquired for the Ystad Art Museum’s collection in 2024. The score will be performed live by musicians on at least one occasion during the exhibition period.
