NOBA Nordic Baltic contemporary art platform

Zsolt József Simon's sculptures are made using plaster molds. The artist creates and uses them in an unconventional way, turning what is otherwise considered a mistake, an effect and an opportunity in the creation of ceramic objects. ARS presents works from the series created by Zsolt as part of a three-year creative scholarship received in 2018. Unlike earlier, concentric and balanced sculptural forms, newer works are more asymmetrical and more stressful for the author. The new approach has, he said, given him even more freedom to experiment.

Zsolt József Simon studied the design of silicate materials at MOME (Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design) in Budapest in 2001–2006. After graduation, he has worked as a freelance artist. His works have been selected for many international exhibitions of ceramics and design and recognized with awards. The exhibition at ARS is supported by the Department of Ceramics of EAA, the Hungarian Cultural Institute and the Estonian Artists’ Union
