NOBA Nordic Baltic contemporary art platform

The show focuses on depictions of the body and physical contact. The bodies depicted in the multilayered and thickly painted works of Jüris fall somewhere in the in-between: at times they are realistic and figurative but sometimes abstract and non-figurative, forcing the viewer’s gaze to penetrate various layers.

In 2008–2012, Jüris studied decoration and stylising in the Tartu Art School. Her bachelor’s (2015) and master’s (2017) degrees in painting are from the University of Tartu. Since 2019, Jüris has been in the master’s programme of the Royal Institute of Art in Sweden.

“matter that (em)bodies” by Siiri Jüris is part of the Tartu Art Museum’s exhibition series “Young Tartu”, which provides opportunities for young artists associated with Tartu. The series has previously featured solo exhibitions by Sten Eltermaa (“Brussels’ Prelude: The Liminal Zone”, 2017), Keiu Maasik (“The Three Brothers”, 2018) and Mirjam Hinn (“High Voltage”, 2019).
